Seneca sagt vortrefflich: velle non discitur [wollen läßt sich nicht lernen; Epistulae 8I, I4], wobei er die Wahrheit seinen Stoikern vorzieht, welche lehrten, [die Tugend sei lehrbar; Diogenes Laertios 7, 9I].

Seneca puts it excellently: velle non discitur [willing cannot be learned; Epistulae 8I, I4], and in this he prefers the truth to his stoics, who taught [that virtue can be taught; Diogenes Laertios 7, 9I].
